There is a moment in growth that is hard to explain… but you feel it.
It is not the beginning, where everything is new and eye-opening.
It is not the breakthrough moment, where something shifts, and you see clearly.
It is what comes after.
It is the quiet realization that something within you has changed… even if your life around you still looks the same.
I remember walking through a season like this.
On the outside, nothing dramatic had happened. My schedule looked the same. The people around me were the same. My responsibilities had not changed.
But internally, something was different.
The way I thought had shifted.
The way I responded had softened.
The things that used to trigger me did not carry the same weight.
And yet… something felt unfamiliar.
Not wrong. Just different.
It was as if I no longer fit into the version of myself I had been living as… but I had not fully stepped into who I was becoming either.
That space can feel confusing.
Because you cannot go back to who you were… but you are still learning how to live as who you are becoming.
And if you are in that space right now, I want you to know something.
This is not a setback.
This is growth.
This is the part most people don’t talk about.
The In-Between Space No One Talks About
Most people talk about transformation as if it is a clear before and after.
Who you were.
Who you are now.
But in reality, there is a middle.
A space where old patterns no longer feel right, old reactions feel uncomfortable, and old ways of thinking no longer align… yet the new way of being does not feel automatic.
So you find yourself pausing more.
Catching yourself mid-thought.
Choosing differently… but sometimes more slowly than you would like.
This is not inconsistency.
This is awareness in motion.
It can feel like you are moving more slowly than before.
Not because you are stuck… but because you are no longer reacting without thinking.
You’re catching yourself in moments you used to move through without thinking.
And that awareness creates space.
Space to pause.
Space to choose.
Space to respond differently.
But that space can feel unfamiliar at first.
Because you are no longer being pulled forward by old patterns.
You are learning how to move forward with intention.
And that shift, while powerful, can feel uncomfortable until it becomes familiar.
You are interrupting patterns that may have been in place for years.
Of course it feels different.
Of course it feels unfamiliar.
You are not just changing what you do.
You are changing who you are.
Why It Can Feel So Unsettling
There is a reason this space can feel uncomfortable.
Your mind is used to what is familiar.
Even if what is familiar was not serving you, it was predictable.
Now you are stepping into something new.
And new requires presence.
You cannot operate on autopilot the same way you used to.
You notice more.
You feel more.
You pause more.
And sometimes, that can feel like overthinking or second-guessing yourself.
But what is actually happening is this:
You are becoming intentional.
And intentional living will always feel different than reactive living.
You Are Not Losing Yourself
Sometimes in this process, people quietly wonder:
Why does this feel harder right now?
Why don’t I feel as certain as I thought I would?
Why does the old version of me feel so close?
It can almost feel like you are losing something.
In a way, you are.
You are releasing old thought patterns, old emotional reactions, and old identities you learned to live from.
But you are not losing yourself.
You are uncovering who you were created to be.
And that takes time.
It takes awareness.
And it takes a willingness to continue choosing differently, even when it feels unfamiliar.
Becoming Requires More Than Awareness
Awareness is where growth begins.
You begin to see your patterns, your triggers, and your thoughts. You begin to recognize what is aligned and what is not.
But awareness alone isn’t enough.
There comes a point where you are invited to live from what you now know.
This is where identity begins to shift.
Not just “I see it.”
But “I no longer live from that place.”
That shift does not happen in one moment.
It happens in the small, consistent choices you make every day.
Choosing a different thought.
Choosing a different response.
Choosing not to pick up something that once felt automatic.
Living as the Person You Are Becoming
There have been moments where I had to live this out in real time.
Moments where something was said that would have normally triggered me. Moments where my first instinct was to defend, explain, or react the way I always had.
And in that split second, there was a pause.
Not a long moment. Just enough space to recognize what was happening.
I could feel the pull toward the old response.
The familiar reaction. The pattern that once felt automatic.
But I also knew it no longer reflected who I was becoming.
So instead of reacting, I chose differently.
Sometimes that looked like saying less.
Sometimes it looked like taking a breath before responding.
Sometimes it looked like walking away from a thought instead of engaging with it.
And I will be honest, it did not always feel natural at first.
It felt intentional.
It felt like I was choosing something new on purpose.
But over time, those intentional choices began to feel more like me.
Not forced.
Not practiced.
Just aligned.
There is a shift that happens when you stop asking, “Why is this still hard?” and begin asking, “What would the version of me I am becoming choose here?”
That question realigns your path.
Because it moves you out of reaction and into alignment.
Living this way does not mean you get it right every time.
But now you recognize it sooner.
You return quicker.
You realign faster.
That is growth.
That’s what this looks like in real life.
The Role of Holy Spirit in This Process
One of the most meaningful parts of this journey for me has been realizing that I am not navigating this alone.
Holy Spirit does not rush this process.
He does not expect perfection.
But He is present in it.
Sometimes it shows up as a quiet awareness. A pause before you respond. A thought that interrupts the old pattern. A gentle knowing that what you are about to say or do is not aligned with truth.
Sometimes it is a reminder that you do not have to go back to who you were. That you are safe to choose differently. That you are being led, even when it feels unfamiliar.
And sometimes, it is simply peace.
A quiet confirmation that you are moving in the right direction… even if it does not feel fully natural yet.
The more you begin to notice this, the more you begin to trust it.
And the more you trust it, the steadier you become.
You Have Already Changed
If you have been doing this work, noticing your thoughts, choosing differently, even in small ways, then something important has already happened.
You have changed.
Not in a loud, obvious way that everyone around you can see.
But in a real and meaningful way that is shaping how you experience your life.
You think differently than you used to.
You pause in moments where you once reacted.
You question things you once accepted without hesitation.
That matters more than you may realize.
Because transformation is not proven in one big moment.
It is revealed in the small, consistent shifts that begin to feel natural over time.
Even if it does not feel complete yet.
Even if you are still finding your footing in it.
Even if there are moments where the old version of you feels close.
That does not erase the growth.
It confirms it.
Because the fact that you notice the difference means you are no longer who you were.
And the more you continue to honor that awareness, the more fully you step into who you are becoming.
A Gentle Invitation
If you find yourself in this space, do not rush it.
Do not try to force clarity.
Do not assume something is wrong.
Instead, stay present.
Notice what is shifting.
Be honest about what no longer fits.
And continue choosing what you know is aligned, one moment at a time.
You are not going backward.
You are learning how to live as the person you have already begun to become.
And that process matters.
If this resonates with you, take a moment to pause.
Not to figure everything out…
But to recognize what is already happening in your life.
You’re noticing your thoughts in a way you didn’t before.
You’re pausing in moments where you used to react.
You’re questioning patterns that once felt automatic.
That’s not small.
That’s change.
So instead of rushing to the next step, honor where you are.
Notice what no longer fits.
Pay attention to what feels different.
Stay present with what is unfolding.
Because this is how real change happens.
Not all at once.
Not perfectly.
But one intentional choice at a time.
And if you feel ready to go deeper, that is exactly the work we do together.
