There’s something sacred about reaching this point in the year. Not because we have to race to the finish line, but because we’ve been given an opportunity to pause, reflect, and ask: What still matters to me now? What no longer fits? What am I being invited to release – or return to?

For many of us, the goals we set in January don’t reflect the clarity we’ve gained by September. And that’s not a failure; it’s growth. Honest reflection has a way of rearranging our path. Unexpected healing shifts priorities. And sometimes, what we thought we wanted isn’t what we need anymore.

That’s why this season isn’t about hustling to complete a checklist. It’s about honoring the process we’ve walked through and realigning our steps to where God is leading now. Whether you’re checking things off, letting things go, or simply trying to stay grounded, your journey is valid.

I remember one fall when I looked at my goals and felt a wave of disappointment. So much had shifted – personally, spiritually, emotionally – and I was tempted to push through just to feel accomplished. But instead of forcing results, I sat with Holy Spirit and asked: “What still matters?” His answer was simple: Presence. Obedience. Peace.

That moment gave me permission to lay down the goals that no longer fit and recommit to the ones that did. I wasn’t quitting. I was recalibrating, with God, not against Him.

I let go of a few things that were once important: a program I thought I had to finish, a number I thought I had to hit, a version of success that wasn’t mine anymore. And in their place, I created space. I began listening more, striving less. I allowed myself to be led.

If you’re feeling behind, I invite you to ask:
• What needs completion?
• What needs adjusting?
• And what needs to be released entirely?

Here’s a simple reset practice:
1. Review your current goals.
2. Circle the ones that still feel aligned.
3. Cross out the ones that no longer resonate.
4. Add one new intention that reflects who you are becoming.

Then bring that intention before God and ask, “Is this truly aligned with where You’re leading me now?” Let your next step come from peace, not pressure.

To go deeper, try journaling this prayer:
“Father, what goal – or mindset – have I outgrown? And what do You want me to focus on instead?”

Sit quietly with the question. Let what you receive guide your next move.
You don’t have to overhaul your life. You just have to honor your truth. That’s where real transformation begins.

One of the lessons in my book, Rise & Shine: A Journey Within, says: “Let go of outdated expectations.”

It’s a short sentence, but it took me years to learn. We often carry old versions of ourselves into new seasons, expecting the same goals to apply. But when you grow, your goals need to grow with you.

Another lesson says: “Ask God what’s next.”

This season is ideal for that question. Not to scramble, but to slow down. Holy Spirit may nudge you toward completion, or toward surrender. Either way, you’re being invited into clarity.

Here’s a 5-minute morning practice to reset:
• Breathe in deeply and say: “I am here.”
• Read one sentence from scripture or your journal.
• Name one thing you’re grateful for.
• Ask: “What matters most today?”
Let that be enough.

And in the evening:
• Sit still for one minute.
• Speak one word of appreciation over yourself.
• Say: “I release what no longer serves me.”
• Sleep in peace.

If you’re grieving an unmet goal, you’re not alone. Just because something isn’t finished doesn’t mean it wasn’t fruitful. Sometimes the lesson is in the journey, not the destination. Trust that.

So, wherever you find yourself right now – celebrating, resetting, or in quiet reflection – know this: You’re not behind. You’re becoming.

You are still being shaped. Still being shown. Still being strengthened.

And the year isn’t over yet.
There’s still time for peace.
Still time for joy.
Still time for purpose.

You’re not late – you’re right on time for what God has planned.
