October has always been more than just my birthday month. It’s a sacred checkpoint. A quiet space between summer’s momentum and winter’s stillness. A chance to ask myself—not what have I accomplished—but who am I becoming? And am I living in alignment with what God is asking of me right now?

Birthdays used to stir up so much pressure for me. I approached them like mini-resolutions: What have I done? What’s next? Am I where I thought I’d be? But this year, something shifted. I didn’t need to evaluate or prove. I needed to honor where I was and listen more deeply to the gentle wisdom unfolding within.

One particular birthday stands out. I remember looking around and feeling like I was behind. The things I had prayed for hadn’t materialized yet, and I felt the familiar pull to set bigger goals, do more, strive harder. But Holy Spirit nudged me differently. I felt Him whisper:

“You’re not behind. You’re becoming.”

That moment unraveled something in me. I stopped chasing milestones and started honoring moments… moments of peace, clarity, surrender, and alignment. That shift reminded me: with God, even the ordinary becomes sacred.

This birthday, I’m reflecting on a few truths that are shaping this season of my life. Maybe they’ll speak to you too.

Truth 1: Growth doesn’t always look like progress.
Sometimes we plant seeds that take months, even years to bloom. The work that happens beneath the surface is still holy. When I stopped needing visible outcomes to prove my worth, I began to trust the hidden seasons more. Slower growth doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It may mean you’re doing something real.

Truth 2: God doesn’t rush our becoming.
This year, I gave myself permission to rest. To listen. To say yes slower. I released the pressure to keep up and chose to follow peace instead. I’m learning that obedience matters more than optics, and divine timing doesn’t bend to our calendars. When I invite God into my day, even the smallest steps become sacred.

Truth 3: Identity deepens with each yes to Him.
I’ve spent the last year becoming more fully myself – not more like others. I’ve said no to what’s shiny but misaligned, and yes to what’s quiet but true. Every surrender has rooted me deeper in who God created me to be. And that has brought more peace than any external success ever has.

So, let me ask you: What season are you in?
Maybe you’re in a season of blooming, or burying. Maybe you’re rebuilding, realigning, or just catching your breath. Wherever you are, it’s valid. It’s valuable. And it’s leading somewhere beautiful.

Here are a few reflection questions to hold gently:
– What’s one part of you that’s maturing beautifully right now?
– What do you want to release as this year closes?
– What would it look like to embrace your next season without striving?
– Where do you need to stop performing and simply start receiving?

One of the lessons from my book, Rise & Shine: A Journey Within, reads:
“Embrace what is: find serenity within.”

That’s what I’m choosing this year. To celebrate becoming. To find joy in the quiet. To let presence – not pressure – shape the path forward.

I’m not trying to reinvent myself this year. I’m simply uncovering who I’ve always been – beneath the roles, the results, and the expectations. Becoming isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about becoming someone true.

We live in a world that constantly demands proof – metrics, milestones, visible outcomes. But spiritual growth often unfolds in quiet places. Sometimes the most powerful shifts are the ones no one sees: the changed thought, the softer tone, the deeper breath. That’s the kind of transformation I’m celebrating this year.

So if your journey doesn’t look like anyone else’s, good. That’s the point. You’re not here to perform someone else’s purpose. You’re here to embody your own. And the more you surrender to God’s pace, the more peace you’ll carry with you.

And so, as I celebrate another year of life, I offer this blessing to you:
May you stop running long enough to feel your breath. May you listen long enough to hear your heart. May you release what no longer fits. And may you trust that becoming takes time – and you’re right on time.
